Recent study shows, like some diseases, most of the time depression doesn’t have a single cause. Instead, it results from a mix of things like your genes, events in your past, your current circumstances, and more. And once you figure out the cause, you can easily fight depression.

So the bottom line is depression is a disease that can affect anyone and regardless of the cause, there are many good ways to cure it.

Biology

Although no one surely knows, what changes exactly happens in the depressed person’s brain, studies shows that certain parts of the brain don’t seem to be working normally. So it’s safe to say that depression might also be affected by changes in the functioning of certain chemicals in the brain.

Genetics

Researchers proved that if depression runs in your family, at some point in life, you have a higher chances of becoming depressed.

There is still no reliable explanation to it, but usually women are about twice as likely as men to become depressed. It might be because the hormonal changes that women go through at different times of their lives causes it.

Trauma

If someone under goes experiences like extreme violence or physical or emotional abuse, get scarred for long time. Usually victims of such events becomes introverts in future and don’t want to share their feelings and experiences with others, which ultimately causes the depression.

Grief

Guilt of wrong doing or personal loss causes a grief. Person in grief usually feel ashamed, betrayed, and lost with no hopes. This led one to loneliness and depression.

These are only few causes of depression. But the important thing to note here is, depression is not an unknown curse or wrath of evil burst on you.
